Short answer: pick Essential if you mainly play online with friends, Extra if you finish more than a few games a year, and skip Deluxe unless you really want the PS1, PS2 and PSP classics. Whatever you choose, the 12 month plan is the cheapest way to pay.
What PS Plus costs in India now
Sony raised PlayStation Plus prices in India on 19 July 2026. If you were already a member, the new price applies from your next renewal. These are the current list prices:
- Essential: ₹649 for 1 month, ₹1,599 for 3 months, ₹5,139 for 12 months.
- Extra: ₹979 for 1 month, ₹2,599 for 3 months, ₹8,709 for 12 months.
- Deluxe: ₹1,109 for 1 month, ₹2,989 for 3 months, ₹9,879 for 12 months.
Before the rise, a year of Essential cost ₹3,949 and a year of Deluxe cost ₹7,599, so this was a jump of roughly 30 percent across the board. Sony runs PS Plus discounts a few times a year, most reliably during Days of Play and around the end-of-year sales, so if your plan ends close to one of those, wait for it.
Essential: online play and monthly games
Essential is the entry tier. You need it to play most paid games online on PS5 and PS4, and it also gives you a few monthly games to claim, cloud saves and member discounts on the PlayStation Store. The monthly games stay in your library for as long as you keep a subscription. This month’s picks are in our news post on the PS Plus games for October 2026.
One thing a lot of people miss: free-to-play games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends and Rocket League do not need PS Plus for online play. If those are all you play online, you may not need Plus at all.
Extra: the Game Catalogue
Extra adds the Game Catalogue, a rotating library of hundreds of PS4 and PS5 games you can download and play while you’re a member. It includes big first-party games from PlayStation Studios along with plenty of third-party hits and indies. Some games leave the catalogue every month, so it works more like a library than a shop.
Here is the simple maths. A year of Extra costs ₹3,570 more than a year of Essential. That’s less than one new PS5 game at full price. If you play three or four catalogue games you would otherwise have bought, Extra pays for itself.
Deluxe: classics and trials
In India the top tier is called Deluxe rather than Premium, because it doesn’t include cloud streaming here. What you get on top of Extra is the Classics Catalogue, with PS1, PS2 and PSP games, plus timed trials of some new releases. It’s lovely if you grew up on those consoles, but for most players it’s the least useful upgrade.
Which plan should you buy?
- You play one or two online games and buy new releases: Essential.
- You like trying lots of games, or you just bought a PS5: Extra. A new console plus a year of Extra is the cheapest way to build a backlog.
- You want to revisit old PlayStation games: Deluxe, ideally bought on sale.
- You only play free-to-play games online: you can skip PS Plus.
Ways to pay less
- Always compare the 12 month price with 12 single months. On Essential, monthly billing costs ₹7,788 a year against ₹5,139 for the annual plan.
- Wait for the Days of Play sale or the holiday sale if your plan isn’t about to run out.
- PlayStation Store wallet top-up cards from Amazon.in and Flipkart sometimes come with bank card offers, which can cut the price a little more.
