Is it worth it?
One of the best RPGs ever made and regularly very cheap on sale. Buy the Complete Edition, which includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, two expansions as good as most full games.
What works
- Exceptional writing and side quests

About The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Witcher 3 follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter for hire, as he searches for Ciri, the young woman he raised, who is being hunted by the Wild Hunt, a spectral army from another world. The search takes him across a war-torn continent, from the swamps of Velen to the islands of Skellige.
What sets it apart is the writing. Even small contracts tend to turn into stories with real choices, and those choices often come back later in ways you won’t expect. Characters like the Bloody Baron have become famous for good reason.
Combat mixes sword fighting, magic signs and alchemy. It’s the weakest part of the game, but preparing the right oils and potions for a tough monster is satisfying.
The Complete Edition includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The second adds a whole new region, Toussaint, and is often called one of the best expansions ever made. The 2022 next-gen update brought better visuals and faster loading to PS5, Xbox Series and PC as a free upgrade.
The main story alone takes around 50 hours. With the expansions and side quests, 150 hours is common.
