PS Plus vs Game Pass vs EA Play vs Ubisoft+: which gaming subscription is worth it in India

Short answer: on PlayStation, PS Plus Extra is the best value for most people. On Xbox, Game Pass Ultimate if you want new games on day one, Premium if you don’t. On PC, PC Game Pass beats everything else. EA Play and Ubisoft+ are best bought one month at a time, for one game.

The best pick for each kind of player

You have a PS5 and play a bit of everything. PS Plus Extra. The catalogue has hundreds of games, including PlayStation’s own big hits a year or two after launch. A year of Extra costs less than two new games. Full details are in our PS Plus India guide.

You have a PS5 and only play online with friends. PS Plus Essential, or nothing at all if your games are free to play. Fortnite, Warzone, Apex and Rocket League don’t need PS Plus.

You have an Xbox. Ultimate if you want new Microsoft games like Forza or Fable on day one. Premium if you’re patient, since you save ₹390 a month. See our Game Pass India guide.

You play on PC. PC Game Pass. Day-one Microsoft games and EA Play in one subscription is hard to beat at ₹879.

You play EA FC every year. EA Play for the month before launch, then cancel. If you already have Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, you have it already.

Ways to pay less for any subscription

• Pay yearly for anything you’ll keep all year. On PS Plus Essential, monthly billing costs ₹7,788 a year against ₹5,139 for the annual plan.
• Wait for sales. Sony usually discounts 12-month PS Plus by up to a third during Days of Play and Black Friday. See our PlayStation sale calendar.
• Indian recurring-payment rules mean auto-renew sometimes fails. Gift cards bought with UPI avoid the problem.
• Never stack. If you have Game Pass Ultimate, don’t also pay for EA Play.
