How to pay on Steam in India: UPI, wallet codes and avoiding dodgy keys

Steam accepts UPI in India, so you can pay with Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm. Here is how it works, when wallet codes make sense, and why cheap key sites can cost you more.

Short answer: yes, Steam accepts UPI in India. At checkout, pick the UPI option and pay with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or your bank’s UPI app. The money usually shows up within seconds. Steam has charged Indian accounts in rupees since 2015, so there’s no currency conversion fee.

How to pay with UPI on Steam

  1. Add the game to your cart and click Purchase for myself.
  2. Choose the UPI payment option.
  3. Scan the QR code with your UPI app, or enter your UPI ID if that’s offered.
  4. Approve the payment in the app. The game appears in your library straight away.

You can also use UPI to add money to your Steam wallet. That’s handy before a big sale, so you aren’t stuck at checkout when everyone else is.

Steam wallet codes in India

Rupee wallet codes exist, and they only work on Indian accounts. Sellers like the JioGames store and Rooter stock them, and you’ll see amounts from about ₹150 to ₹5,000. Since UPI works on Steam directly, codes are mainly useful as gifts.

Why Steam is often the cheapest place to buy in India

Steam lets publishers set regional prices, and many still price their games lower in India than in the US. A new release like Modern Warfare 4 costs ₹4,999 on Steam India against ₹5,999 on the PlayStation Store. Older games get heavy discounts in the big Steam sales. Should you buy from key-reseller sites?

We don’t list grey-market key sites on GameJila, and we’d avoid them. Some keys are bought with stolen cards, and when the theft is found, the key can stop working. You lose the game and there’s no one to complain to. If a deal is far below every official store, there’s usually a reason.

Official alternatives with real discounts: Steam’s own sales, Epic’s free weekly games and GOG for older PC games.
