Is it worth it?
If you have the patience for its slow start, this is one of the best open worlds ever made. Buy it for the story of Arthur Morgan and the gang, and give it a few evenings before you judge it. On PC it looks stunning; on PS5 the PS4 version runs well through backward compatibility.

About Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is Rockstar’s prequel to the 2010 original, set in 1899 as the age of outlaws comes to an end. You play as Arthur Morgan, an enforcer in Dutch van der Linde’s gang, as they run from the law after a job goes wrong. What follows is a long, sad and often funny story about loyalty, and about a man slowly realising the life he chose is ending.
The world is the star. Towns, swamps, snowy peaks and wide plains are packed with small details: animals that hunt each other, strangers with their own stories, camp life that changes as the gang’s fortunes rise and fall. Almost everything you do, from shaving to skinning a deer, is animated with care.
That realism cuts both ways. Arthur moves with weight, menus take time and missions are tightly scripted. If you want quick action, it can feel slow. If you settle into its pace, it’s hard to put down.
Red Dead Online comes included and lets you explore the same world with friends, though Rockstar’s attention has largely moved elsewhere.
The main story runs around 50 hours, and doing most of what the world offers can easily double that.
