Is it worth it?

A great pick for anyone who wants a relaxed open-world driving game to dip in and out of for months. The Standard Edition gives you the full game. If you can get the Premium Edition on sale, it's worth it, since it adds both expansions and the Car Pass.

What works

  • Huge, varied map of Mexico
  • Enormous car list with deep tuning and livery tools
  • Easy to enjoy in short sessions

What doesn't

  • Festival chatter and event loops can get repetitive
  • The best expansions cost extra

About Forza Horizon 5

Forza Horizon 5 drops you into a festival-flavoured version of Mexico and lets you loose with hundreds of real cars. The map is the biggest the series has had, roughly half as large again as Forza Horizon 4, and packs in jungles, beaches, desert, Mayan ruins, the streets of Guanajuato and an active volcano you can drive right up.

Most of your time goes into picking events off the map: road races, dirt and cross-country runs, street races, stunt challenges and showcase events. Progress is loose and forgiving, so you can chase whatever sounds fun. Seasons change regularly and bring fresh playlists, and online you’ll find the Eliminator battle royale mode and EventLab creation tools.

Collecting and tuning cars is a big part of the appeal. You can swap engines, adjust setups, paint liveries and share them with other players, and the car list now runs to around 800 licensed vehicles.

The PS5 version arrived in April 2025, about three and a half years after the Xbox and PC release, and reviewed just as well as the original. Two paid expansions, Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure, add new areas to drive.

The main campaign takes about 21 hours, and players who try to complete everything report well over 100.
